But as is the case with baseball, the Spring was full of promise. No one expected much from this team. They traded many of their stars last season when the wheels fell off and I think a lot of us expected them to be in rebuilding mode this year. But they started winning and never stopped. I kept waiting for the inevitable swoon when they would drop a bunch of games but it never happened.
The team was a rallying point after bombs ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon this spring. The team took it upon themselves to honor the victims and to give the city something to rally around and never disappointed.
After the game this weekend, Shane Victorino who hit a grand slam to help the Sox win, tweeted this:

This weird bunch of bearded, scruffy, guys is now about to play for the World Series after sucking so hard last year. They can't erase what happened in April but they have been everything a city could hope for in a sports team, especially after the bombing and the terror of being confined to our homes while they hunted for the bombers. I hope they hoist the trophy but even if they don't, we love these bearded dudes who look like they are having so much fun every time they play. They're a weird bunch, just like everyone in Boston. Not everyone gets us, New Englanders, but we're okay with that, especially when we're winning. Go Sox!
